Key Road to the Polish Border Under Reconstruction: Upgrade of the M-09 Continues
Major reconstruction work is continuing on the M-09 Ternopil–Lviv–Rava-Ruska road, one of Ukraine’s important freight corridors leading to the Polish border.
The project covers more than 62 km between Lviv and the Rava-Ruska–Hrebenne border crossing. It is being implemented as part of the development of the Trans-European Transport Network, with financial support from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The combined value of the construction contracts exceeds €100 million.
Work began in April 2025 and is divided between two sections. Construction readiness on the first section has reached approximately 50%. Contractors are installing pavement layers and working on six bridge structures, one of which has already been completed.
More than 40% of the work has been completed on the second section. Seven engineering structures are being reconstructed, with most reaching 80–90% readiness. Three bridge structures have already been fully completed or are approaching the final stage.
The M-09 is an important road connection between western Ukraine and Poland. It carries international freight towards Lublin, Warsaw and other markets in Central and Western Europe.
For businesses, the reconstruction should eventually provide a safer road surface, stronger bridges and more predictable transport conditions. These improvements are particularly important for heavy vehicles, industrial cargo and regular cross-border supply chains.
During the construction period, however, drivers may face temporary lane restrictions, alternating traffic, diversions and local delays. Shippers should therefore include additional time in transport schedules, especially for urgent deliveries, temperature-controlled goods and cargo booked for fixed unloading or customs slots.
