Fragile cargo requires attention before the vehicle arrives for loading. Glass, ceramics, sanitary ware, lighting, electronics, medical devices, production equipment and sensitive components can all be damaged by movement, vibration, poor handling or incorrect placement inside the vehicle.
At LOADSTAR, we recommend informing us in advance if your cargo is fragile. This detail is not a formality - it directly affects how the shipment should be planned. When we understand the nature of the goods from the beginning, we can select the right vehicle, assess the route, reduce unnecessary transhipments, plan loading conditions and organise suitable cargo insurance.
The first step is proper packaging. Fragile goods should be packed in strong boxes, wooden crates, pallet collars or custom packaging, depending on the product. Protective materials such as foam, bubble wrap, cardboard dividers, edge protectors and cushioning inserts help reduce the risk of damage during transport.
The cargo should not move inside the package. Empty space must be filled, and fragile items should be wrapped separately whenever possible. For especially delicate or high-value goods, international carriers often recommend the box-in-box method: the product is packed in an inner box, which is then placed inside a larger outer box with an additional protective layer.
The second step is clear labelling. Marks such as “Fragile”, “This Side Up” and “Do Not Stack” help drivers, warehouse teams and handlers understand how the goods should be treated. However, labels are not a replacement for strong packaging. If the cargo is loose inside the box or poorly secured on the pallet, a label will not prevent damage.
The third step is correct loading and fixation. Palletised fragile cargo should be secured with stretch film, straps or additional supports. Glass, panels and tiles may require vertical positioning and rigid frames. Sensitive equipment should be loaded with attention to weight distribution, lifting points, moisture protection and stacking limitations.
LOADSTAR can support clients before the shipment starts. We help assess logistics risks, choose the right vehicle, plan the route, coordinate loading requirements, arrange transport and organise cargo insurance.
Insurance is especially important for fragile, expensive or custom-made goods. Even with careful preparation, logistics can involve unexpected events: road accidents, warehouse handling damage, sudden braking, delays or other force majeure situations. LOADSTAR UNITY LTD organises cargo insurance so the client has financial protection if something goes wrong during transport.
Logistics Tip from LOADSTAR:
If your cargo is fragile, high-value or important for production or sales, inform LOADSTAR UNITY LTD before the route calculation stage. The more details we have from the start, the more accurately we can plan the transport, select the vehicle, reduce risks and organise the right insurance option.
LOADSTAR organises fragile cargo transport across Europe, the UK and Ukraine, helping clients reduce risks before the shipment even leaves the loading point.
