Ukraine and the EU Are Creating a Unified Logistics Space: New Business Opportunities

Ukraine and the European Union are advancing their efforts to integrate transport and logistics systems, opening new opportunities for Ukrainian businesses and international transportation.  

 

According to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, the key objective is to ensure seamless movement of goods, services, and people across the border. A crucial element in this initiative is the "transport visa-free" regime, which allows Ukrainian carriers to operate without needing separate permits. The government is working to make this mechanism permanent, as approximately 60% of Ukraine's exports already go to the EU, reaching $1.8 billion in January 2025 alone.  

 

Modernization of Border Checkpoints and Joint Customs Control  

The development of border infrastructure is another critical area of reform. By 2030, Ukraine aims to upgrade 29 existing border crossings and construct 17 new ones, significantly improving logistics flow. Additionally, a pilot project for joint customs and border control is set to launch this year on the Polish-Ukrainian border, streamlining procedures for freight carriers.  

 

The eQueue system has also proven effective, now operating at 28 border crossings, with 24 offering time-slot booking for crossing. Since its launch, the system has facilitated 1.7 million border crossings.

 

Expansion of the Maritime Corridor and Export Support  

Another strategic priority is the Ukrainian Maritime Corridor, which has transported over 100 million tons of cargo to 53 countries in just 1.5 years. Ukraine is also actively supporting exporters: the Export Credit Agency has provided UAH 20 billion in financial aid over the past three years, with UAH 1.5 billion allocated since the start of 2025.  

 

"Our goal is to export high-value-added goods. The 'Made in Ukraine' program focuses on developing processing industries, which is essential for building a strong and competitive economy," said Denys Shmyhal.
