On 4 December 2024, Transport for London (TfL) approved the toll proposals for the Silvertown and Blackwall tunnels, finalizing the charges, discounts, and exemptions ahead of the Silvertown Tunnel's opening in Spring 2025.
The decision was shaped by the responses from over 5,000 participants in a public consultation held between July and September 2024. This feedback helped TfL refine its approach, balancing congestion management, equitable access, and environmental goals.
Under the new scheme, charges will apply from 06:00 to 22:00 daily, with off-peak rates starting at £1.50 for cars, motorcycles, and small vans registered with Auto Pay. Peak charges will manage traffic during rush hours, while travel between 22:00 and 06:00 will remain free.
To support residents, small businesses, and low-income households, TfL is introducing a 50% discount for eligible residents across 12 London boroughs and the City of London. Public transport improvements, including zero-emission buses and free cross-river journeys on selected routes, will further ease the transition.
Applications for discounts and exemptions will open in early 2025. TfL remains committed to delivering a fair and sustainable tolling system to improve London's connectivity.
