New Rail Freight Interchange: A Strategic Project for the UK’s Future

The Hinckley National Rail Freight Interchange (HNRFI) is set to become a cornerstone of the UK’s logistics network, aiming to modernize freight transport by integrating rail and road logistics.

Tritax Big Box Developments (TBBD) has submitted an updated Development Consent Order (DCO) application to help secure final approval for this ambitious project. Once completed, HNRFI is expected to contribute £329–£406 million per year to the UK economy.


What Does the HNRFI Project Include?

HNRFI is a state-of-the-art logistics hub designed to optimize freight transport. It will feature:

- A rail freight terminal capable of handling 16 trains per day
- 9.1 million sq ft of modern warehousing with direct rail connectivity
- A reduction of 83 million HGV miles per year, easing road congestion
- A carbon emissions reduction of 70,120 tonnes annually
